Benji is FINALLY Being Trained | Pit-Bull Chronicles

OMG, Good morning!

Okay, so most of you know that I... I mean...we have a dog named Benji. While we've had him for a few years, we never really took the time to train him on a leash. I mean, he does okay when we have a pronged collar on him; but as soon as we put his regular collar on, our knees are damn near scraping the floor.

So, I turned to YouTube and I found this professional dog trainer, Zak George. He literally

gives you step-by-step directions to get you and your fur baby on the same page. Being the self-starter that I am, I opened my calendar and started training!

First I had to go to Target and get more treats. If I want to keep his attention, I'm going to need those. Zak mentioned that high energy dogs are the most intelligent dogs, so I had to figure out how to tire him out enough to focus. So each day at the same time, I take him for a walk and he plays in the dog play pen. On a warmer day, he tires out much faster (yay me)!

So far, we've been training for 5 days. On the third day, I realized that he was starting to get the hang of it. I place his harness on him, making sure he keeps alert to my voice, and it's a go! Since he knows the normal commands like "sit", "stay", "lay down", "high five", and "shake hands", it was good to be able to teach him more.

Benji doing "high-five"

Benji has been doing quite alright. He catches on fast, and I couldn't be more proud. He knows how to pick up stuff and give it to me. He even knows what I mean when I say, "go grab me your leash". Sigh, I'll keep you all posted on our training journey. We have a long road ahead.
