Antioxidant Protein Smoothie

Good Day Starshine!

This week, I decided to discuss smoothies.  Don’t you just absolutely LOVE making smoothies? There are so many different options and recipes out there, sometimes it gets so overwhelming! Well, I’m here to help you, my friend.

Okay, first thing’s first I’m the realist.

Haha, no, seriously. What the Davey Jones’ Locker are antioxidants and why are they good for you? I’m here to help you with that, here’s a short synopsis of why antioxidants are THAT DEAL.

  1. Antioxidants can prevent (Pref: Anti) the oxidation (Suffix: oxidant) of other molecules in the body. (the benefits of antioxidants are important to good health, because if free radicals are left unchallenged, they can cause a wide range of illnesses and chronic diseases)

  2. Antioxidants protect the body from damaging cells (free radicals). Free Radicals are what can cause diseases and illnesses in the body like cancer. I’m not a scientist, don’t make me go into detail.

  3. Antioxidants contain some vitamins like Vitamin A and C. They also contain minerals, and flavonoids. Most of which, are best found in plants (like fresh fruit and veggies)

  4. Different Anti-oxidants benefit different types of the body!  For example, beta-carotene (and other carotenoids) is very beneficial to eye health, lycopene is beneficial for helping maintain prostate health; flavonoids are beneficial for heart health; and proanthocyanidins are beneficial for urinary tract health.

  5.  Because the world is getting worse, and pollution is going to fill our bodies before they can naturally build an effective immune system, adding antioxidants into our daily diet helps prevent things such as • Immune system issues • Eye problems • Mood disorders • Memory issues • Heart issues

This is why antioxidants are important! So, how can you add them into your daily diet? By getting some antioxidant rich foods duh! Here are a few of my favorite foods that I like to add into my diet that are rich in antioxidants:

Strawberries

Broccoli

Kiwi

Lime

Dark Chocolate

Tomato

Spinach

Kale

Blackberries

Kidney Beans

The list goes on…

Ingredients:You may use any antioxidant filled food that you wish

3/4 Cup Blackberries

1/2 Banana

1 Cup Kale

1 Kiwi (whole)

1 Tbsp Vegan Yogurt

1 Cup Almond Milk

1 Tbsp Chia Seeds

2 Tsp Maca Powder (to replace protein powder)
